Q: How does this negative input work?
A: Negative input (ground sense) purpose is to detect ground when it‘s connected. There won‘t be needed to connect a power supply to external accessories that digital input could sense a change of a signal.

A: This functionality let to use ground connection, which helps to monitor vehicles states as door or seat belts, or you can connect panic button which will inform you to the server that something is happened and panic button was pressed.

A: Negative pulses can be configured in the system window in the mass detection input mode. For this, only one of DIN2/AIN1 wire can be used. If you use another DIN or AIN input, you only need to configure the I/O tab by activating it.

Hint:
Impulse counter can be configured by connecting DIN1 or DIN2 wire (one of them). If you will use DIN1 as impulse counter there is no any configuration needed, except enabling DIN1 I/O element.
Negative input can be configured by using only DIN2 wire, and this should be configured as "Ground sense" Input mode.
